| Officials recommend to delay Palestinian election | |||||||||

 Palestinian election officials on Thursday recommended postponing January’s presidential election. Hanna Nasser, chairman of the Palestinian election commission, blamed Hamas for holding up the vote. According to the AP, he said Hamas had refused to cooperate with election workers, making it impossible to hold the Jan. 24 vote.
“We planned to go to Gaza to figure out how we can conduct elections there,” Nasser said. “In the meantime, we received an answer from Hamas that we are not welcome in Gaza. It is clear now that we cannot hold an election in Gaza.”

| Algeria says football players attacked in Cairo | |||||||||

 The Algerian government said four football players from the national team were injured Thursday when their bus was attacked by Egyptian fans upon arrival in Cairo for a World Cup qualifier.
The two teams last met 20 years ago in a match that led to riots. Egypt won that game 1-0.
In Thursday’s attack, one player was hospitalized and three others were injured, Algerian communication minister Azzedine Mihoubi told state radio. According to him, the players were riding in their bus from Cairo International Airport to their hotel when they were attacked.
An Egyptian police official denied that Algerian team members were hurt. He said security forces overpowered local fans who tried to throw stones at the arriving members of the Algerian squad. Emotional Egyptian fans waited for the Algerians outside the airport but police managed to prevent them from hurling stones, the official said, according to the AP.

Jennifer’s Body star Megan Fox has said she was happy to be ‘covered in blood and vomit’ while filming her new movie.
Fox, 23, plays the lead role in the new movie written by Diablo Cody and said she is happiest filming ‘exciting’ movies where she ends up covered in vomit.
Talking about one of the scenes in the new movie, she said: “I was covered in bruises and rope burns, it was freezing cold and I was wearing a mini skirt and fishnets.
“But the end result was amazing, and as an actor it was a great experience.”
She added: “If I could do exciting genre films like this and be covered in blood and vomit for the rest of my life, I would be really happy [laughs].”
Fox admitted that even though her character in the film is irresistible to men, she doesn’t feel the same confidence in real life.
She said to UK magazine Esquire: “I am not at all secure in my looks. I’m actually painfully insecure. I’m confident in who I am as a person, and confident intellectually and emotionally.
“But physically, the way I feel doesn’t match my shell. I don’t even recognise myself on screen because I just don’t relate to that person or image.”

MOSCOW, July 22 (RIA Novosti) – Washington has little cause for concern over a possible nuclear link between two rogue states in southeast Asia, a Russian expert on arms control said on Wednesday.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Tuesday that Washington was taking concerns about military cooperation between nuclear-armed North Korea and Myanmar “very seriously.”
“Even if North Korea provides assistance to Myanmar in this [nuclear] sphere, it is still at the very early stage of development, and does not pose a real threat,” said Alexander Pikayev, the director of the Department for Disarmament and Conflict Resolution at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations in Moscow.
Myanmar-North Korea military ties came into spotlight after a North Korean cargo ship, tracked by the United States in June and July on suspicion of carrying banned arms, appeared to be on course to Myanmar. The U.S. Navy shadowed the vessel, which turned back to North Korea.
“North Korea most likely uses Myanmar territory as storage for part of its nuclear arsenal, or as a transit center for re-export of its nuclear technologies to third countries,” Pikayev said in an exclusive interview with RIA Novosti.
Myanmar’s stagnant nuclear program was reportedly revitalized shortly after Pakistan’s first detonation of a nuclear weapon in May 1998.
Some analysts believe the reclusive military junta may eventually seek nuclear weapons for the dual purpose of international prestige and strategic deterrence.
However, a 2008 report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said the UN nuclear watchdog had no problem with Myanmar over its nonproliferation commitments.

صرحت الدكتورة فرخندة حسن أمين عام المجلس القومي للمرأة بأن السيدة سوزان مبارك رئيس المجلس ستستقبل اليوم العضوات الأربع لمجلس الامة الكويتي اللاتي يقمن حاليا بزيارة لمصر بدعوة من المجلس.
وكانت الدكاترة سلوي الجسار ومعصومة المبارك ورولا دشتي وآسيل العوضي قد قمن أمس بزيارة للمجلس للتعرف علي تجربته وانشطته المختلفة بهدف تبادل الخبرات بين الجانبين. وقد أعربت العضوات الكويتيات عن سعادتهن بان تكون أول زيارة لهن بعد انتخابهن في شهر مايو الماضي الي مصر التي تجمعها بالكويت علاقات صداقة عميقة. ووجهن الشكر والتحية للسيدة سوزان مبارك علي جهودها المتواصلة للنهوض بالمرأة العربية وتنميتها. وقد استعرضت الدكتورة فرخندة في اجتماع اعضاء المجلس بالنائبات الكويتيات اهم مشاريع المجلس مثل مركز تنمية مهارات المرأة ووحدات تكافؤ الفرص وتنمية القدرات السياسية ومكتب الشكاوي. وأشارت الي جهود المجلس في تعديل بعض القوانين لصالح الأسرة. المصرية مثل قانون الجنسية وانشاء صندوق تأمين الاسري ومحاكم الاسري. وأعربت الأمين العام عن سعادتها بوصول السيدات الأربع الي مجلس الامة الكويتي والذي يعتبر تتويجا لرحلة كفاح استمرت الي ما يقرب من ثلاثين عاما. وصرح سفير الكويت بالقاهرة السيد رشيد أحمد بأن فوز أربع سيدات بعضوية مجلس الامة الكويت يعد انتصارا حقيقيا للمرأة العربية مؤكدا أن زيارتهن لمصر تأتي في اطار دعم العلاقات بين الجانبين في عدة مجالات منها دور المرأة في البرلمان والقضايا ذات الاهتمام المشترك. |

Israeli President Shimon Peres flew to Cairo Tuesday where he held talks with Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak. The two presidents discussed the Middle East peace efforts and the situation of captured Israeli soldier Gilad Schalit, who has been held captive in Gaza for over three years.

وقد شارك في صلاة الجنازة بساحة مسجد القائد إبراهيم بالإسكندرية المئات من المواطنين ووزراء الاستثمار والقوي العاملة والاتصالات, وندد المسلمون والأقباط في ملحمة وطنية رائعة بالحادث الإجرامي والتعصب البغيض الذي راحت ضحيته الشهيدة مروة. ومن القاهرة كتب ـ علا مصطفي عامر وأحمد صبري أمين: وقال رئيس الوزراء ووزير العدل في ولاية زاكسن في حديث مع السفير المصري في برلين رمزي عز الدين إن في الولاية قانونا لتعويض الضحايا, ويجري حاليا دراسة الحقوق المدنية لأسرة المجني عليها الزوج والطفل لتحديد حجم التعويض المادي المناسب وصرفه في أسرع وقت ممكن. |
